Ahmedabad's calendar runs on occasions. Uttarayan fills January rooftops, wedding season fills every banquet hall, Navratri brings nine nights of garba, and Diwali sends every shop into a refit. Each one needs signs, backdrops, table numbers and displays, usually at short notice. Acrylic laser cutting in Ahmedabad has become the go-to answer because acrylic looks premium, takes light beautifully and can be cut into almost any shape with clean, glossy edges. Cafés, boutiques, event planners, artists and brands all use it. One honest note before we start: our laser cutting service cuts acrylic and metals such as steel, stainless and aluminium. We do not cut wood, MDF, plywood, leather or fabric, so this guide sticks to what acrylic does best: choosing the sheet, edges and lettering, preparing files, and building layered art and stands.

What Ahmedabad Businesses Make with Acrylic

Acrylic, also called PMMA, is a rigid, glass-like plastic that is lighter and far less likely to shatter than glass. Typical briefs we see include:

  • Shop and café signs: logo letters on standoffs, menu boards and opening-hours plates.
  • Table pieces: table numbers, QR-code stands, reserved signs and tent cards.
  • Event décor: wedding welcome boards, mehendi and sangeet signage, garba night backdrops, cake toppers and photo-booth props.
  • Retail displays: product risers, jewellery stands, shelf dividers and price holders.
  • Art and gifts: layered wall art, framed typography, award plaques and nameplates.
  • Corporate pieces: reception logos, cabin nameplates and exhibition stand graphics.

Because there is no minimum order, a single wedding welcome board and a run of fifty matching table numbers are both normal jobs. What changes is planning: with a typical laser cutting lead time of 7–14 days, festive and wedding orders go smoothly when they are placed well before the date.

Choosing the Sheet: Clear, Coloured or Frosted

The sheet sets the mood before any design goes on it. Clear acrylic reads as glass and lets the wall behind show through. Opaque colours read as solid, painted shapes. Translucent and frosted sheets glow softly when lit from behind.

Sheet typeLooks likeGood for
ClearGlass with polished edgesMenu boards, award plaques, edge-lit signs, display cases
Opaque colour (black, white, brand colours)Solid painted shapesLogo letters, layered art, cake toppers
Translucent or frostedSoft, diffused glowBacklit signs, lamp panels, privacy screens

Colour range and sheet thickness depend on what can be sourced for your job, so tell us the look you want and we will confirm options when we quote. Thicker sheet feels more premium and stands up on its own; thinner sheet suits layered art where several pieces stack. If you are matching a brand colour exactly, ask for a sample before the full order.

Glossy Edges and Lettering

Acrylic is one of the few materials where the cut edge is a feature. The laser melts and seals the edge as it cuts, which on many sheets leaves a smooth, glossy edge often described as flame-polished, with no saw marks to sand away. On clear acrylic that edge catches light and glows, which is why simple clear signs look so expensive. Cast and extruded sheets can behave a little differently at the edge, so tell us which finish matters most and we will confirm before cutting.

Lettering and logos can be handled in several ways. Cut-through letters and layered pieces on a contrasting backing give crisp, raised detail as part of the same cutting job. Engraving is the other route: surface engraving leaves a frosted mark on top of the sheet, and reverse engraving puts the design on the back of clear acrylic so it reads through the sheet, protected from scratches. If your design depends on engraving, mention it when you request a quote and we will confirm what is possible. Edge-lit signs work on a similar idea: light enters the edge of a clear panel and catches cut or marked details so they glow.

Keep the protective film on until the sign is installed. It protects the face from scratches in transit and handling, and peeling it off on site is the most satisfying part of the job. — Layer X engineering team

Preparing Your Files

A laser follows lines, so it needs vector artwork rather than photos. Most delays on acrylic jobs come from files, not from cutting. Follow these steps and your order moves straight into production:

  1. Use vector formats. Send DXF or SVG, or AI and PDF files that contain true vector paths.
  2. Convert text to outlines. Otherwise a missing font can change your lettering completely.
  3. Close every path. Open shapes cannot be cut cleanly.
  4. Separate cut and mark lines. Put cut lines and any engraved areas on different layers or colours.
  5. Draw at full size in millimetres, including holes for standoffs and fixings, placed well in from the edge.
  6. Add a mock-up. A simple PDF or image showing the finished look helps us catch mistakes.

If you only have a logo as a JPEG, a graphic designer can redraw it as vector artwork. Our guide to laser cutting materials, thickness and tolerance covers the technical limits in more depth.

Layered Art, Stands and Safe Use

Layering is where acrylic gets creative. Stack two or three cut layers with spacers between them and a flat logo becomes a three-dimensional piece with real shadows. Slot-together stands use tabs and slots instead of glue, so they ship flat and assemble in seconds; just design the slot width to the actual sheet thickness, which we can confirm before cutting. Acrylic also pairs well with metal: clear or coloured letters on a brushed stainless or coated steel backplate give a reception sign real weight, and both parts can be cut in the same studio so the fixing holes line up.

A few safety and care notes apply. Acrylic is a combustible plastic, so keep signs and décor away from diyas, candles, heaters and hot lamps, which matters at Diwali and at evening events. Clean with a soft cloth and mild soapy water rather than alcohol-based cleaners. Outdoors, acrylic handles sun better than many plastics, but fix signs securely against wind, and have any illuminated sign wired by a qualified electrician.

Key Takeaways

  • Acrylic and metal only: we laser-cut acrylic, steel, stainless and aluminium, not wood or MDF.
  • Pick the sheet first: clear for glass-like signs, opaque for solid shapes, frosted for glow.
  • Glossy edges: laser cutting usually leaves a clean, polished-looking edge with no sanding.
  • Send vectors: DXF or SVG with text outlined and cut and engrave lines separated.
  • Plan for occasions: order festive and wedding pieces well within the 7–14 day lead time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you laser cut wood or MDF in Ahmedabad?

No. We laser-cut acrylic and metals such as mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium. For wood or MDF, you will need a workshop that specialises in those materials.

Which file format do I need for acrylic laser cutting?

Send vector files such as DXF or SVG, or AI and PDF files with true vector paths. Convert text to outlines and draw at full size in millimetres.

Can you engrave text and logos on acrylic?

Text and logos can be cut through or layered in contrasting acrylic as part of the cutting job. For engraved text, either a frosted surface mark or reverse engraving on clear acrylic, ask when you request a quote and we will confirm what is possible for your design.

How long does acrylic laser cutting take?

The typical lead time is 7–14 days depending on quantity and complexity. For weddings and festivals, order early so there is time for a sample if you need one.

Why Layer X for Acrylic Laser Cutting?

Our Satellite studio cuts acrylic with the same precision we bring to engineering parts: ±0.1mm on a 1500×3000mm bed, from ₹300 per metre cut. An engineer checks every file for open paths, missing outlines and fragile details before cutting, and quotes within 24 h. There is no minimum order, whether you need one wedding board or matching signage for every table, and we ship across India for brands with stores outside Ahmedabad. Have a question first?
