Bay 14. Fire point. Pump P-03. Your logo on the shutter of every dealer outlet from Naroda to Rajkot. Painted markings like these are everywhere in a working city, and the neat ones almost always come from a stencil. Ordering a laser cut stencil in Ahmedabad gets you crisp edges, identical results on every wall and a tool that survives repeated use instead of curling after one job. This guide is for contractors, factories, painters, signage firms, brands and artists who need stencils that work hard: industrial marking, logo stencils for walls and shutters, and reusable art stencils. We cut them from steel, aluminium and acrylic on our laser cutting line in Satellite. Below: where stencils earn their keep, how to choose the material, how to design letters that hold together and how to make a stencil last.

Where Businesses Use Stencils

The common thread is repetition. A stencil turns a skilled hand-lettering job into a fast, consistent one that any trained worker can repeat, which matters when the same marking appears across a whole site:

  • Factories and warehouses: floor bay and aisle numbers, equipment IDs, valve and pipe labels, fire-point and PPE-zone markings across estates such as Vatva, Changodar and Sanand.
  • Housing societies and offices: parking slot numbers, wing letters, flat numbers and no-parking markings that need repainting after every monsoon.
  • Brands and dealer networks: logos on rolling shutters, compound walls and outlet fascias, so every branch looks the same.
  • Exporters and packers: consignment marks on crates, drums and pallets.
  • Painters and contractors: repeated borders, motifs and lettering on site.
  • Artists and muralists: layered stencils for street art and large wall pieces.

For safety markings, check colours, symbols and sizes against the relevant Bureau of Indian Standards guidance or your client's site standard before the file is finalised. A stencil reproduces a mistake as faithfully as it reproduces a correct sign.

Steel, Aluminium or Acrylic?

The right material depends on the paint you use, how often the stencil is used and who has to carry it.

MaterialStrengthsWatch-outsBest for
Stainless 304Very durable, does not rust, tolerates scraping and most paint solventsHeavier, higher material costIndustrial marking used daily, long-life brand stencils
Mild steelRigid and economicalRusts if left wetIndoor workshop and warehouse stencils
Aluminium 5052Light, does not rust, easy to hold overheadSofter, dents if mishandledLarge logo and wall stencils, ladder work
Acrylic (PMMA)Light, clear so you can see alignment marks beneathBrittle if flexed or dropped; thinners and acetone attack itWater-based paints, art stencils, indoor signage

Acrylic's transparency is a real advantage for positioning, because you can line it up against chalk lines or an existing mark. But if your crew sprays solvent-based enamel or cleans with thinner, choose metal. We cut metal and acrylic only, not card, film, wood or fabric. Our sheet metal material guide compares the metals in more depth.

Bridges and Islands: Letters That Hold Together

Cut the letter O out of a sheet and its centre falls out. The enclosed parts of letters, called counters, become loose islands unless something holds them. Letters such as A, B, D, O, P, Q and R, and the numbers 0, 4, 6, 8 and 9, all have this problem. The fix is a bridge: a narrow strip that ties the island back to the sheet. Work through these steps when preparing artwork:

  1. Start with a stencil font that has bridges designed in, or add bridges to your own lettering in a consistent position so they look deliberate.
  2. Size bridges for the material. Too thin and they bend or snap; our engineers check them against the sheet thickness.
  3. Convert all text to outlines so the file does not depend on fonts installed on our computers.
  4. Leave a solid border so the stencil stays stiff and overspray does not reach the wall beyond.
  5. Add registration notches for multi-part or multi-colour stencils, plus a hanging hole for storage.
  6. Send a vector file, such as DXF, or a PDF or SVG with outlined paths.

Logos need the same thinking. A brand mark with enclosed shapes or fine script may need bridges added, or splitting into two layers sprayed one after the other.

Size, Thickness and Handling on Site

Our laser bed is 1500×3000mm, which covers most shutter logos, large floor numbers and wall lettering in a single sheet. Bigger artwork is split into panels with alignment notches so the crew can tile it accurately.

Thickness is a balance. A thin stencil sits flat and gives sharper paint edges, but bends easily. A thicker one survives rough handling but is heavier to hold overhead. Our laser cutting thickness and tolerance chart shows what each metal handles. Cuts are accurate to ±0.1mm, so letter sets cut months apart still match.

Laser-cut metal edges can be sharp, so draw rounded outer corners and handle stencils with gloves. Cut hand-holes into the border of large stencils so they can be carried without bending. On steel machinery and shutters, a few magnets hold the stencil flat while you spray; on walls and floors, low-tack masking tape or a repositionable spray adhesive works better. Spray in a well-ventilated space and follow the paint maker's safety advice.

Spray light coats with the can held square to the stencil. One heavy coat creeps under the edges and blurs the letter; two or three light coats give a crisp line. — Layer X engineering team

Cleaning, Storage and Reorders

A good stencil should outlast the job it was made for. Clean it after each session, before the paint hardens. Metal stencils can be soaked and scraped with a plastic scraper, using the cleaner the paint maker recommends. Acrylic should only see soapy water and a soft cloth, because thinners and acetone will craze or crack it.

Store stencils flat or hanging from their storage hole, never leaning in a stack where they bend. Cut a short reference code through the border of each one, such as the bay range or logo version, so the right stencil comes out of the store every time.

For brands and contractors rolling out markings at many sites, order duplicate sets so crews in different cities can work in parallel. Every set is cut from the same file, so a logo stencil reordered next year matches today's. Laser cutting starts from ₹300 per metre cut; intricate lettering has more cut length than a simple shape, and that is the main driver of price. Our laser cutting service overview covers capabilities and pricing in more detail.

Key Takeaways

  • Repeatable marking: laser-cut stencils give crisp, identical bay numbers, IDs and logos across every site.
  • Match material to paint: stainless for daily use and solvents, aluminium for big overhead stencils, acrylic for water-based paints and easy alignment.
  • Design bridges in: letters with enclosed counters need bridges sized for the sheet.
  • Handle with care: rounded corners, hand-holes, gloves and light spray coats.
  • Same file, same result: reorders and duplicate sets match the original exactly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What material is best for a reusable paint stencil?

For daily industrial use with solvent-based paints, stainless 304 lasts longest. Aluminium suits large stencils that must be light enough to hold up on a wall. Acrylic works well with water-based paints and lets you see alignment marks beneath it, but solvents attack it.

Can you make a stencil of our company logo?

Yes. Send the logo as a vector file, such as DXF, or a PDF or SVG with outlined paths. Our engineers check enclosed shapes and fine details, suggest where bridges are needed and quote within 24 h.

How do stencil letters like O and A stay in one piece?

Their enclosed centres are held by bridges, narrow strips that connect each island to the rest of the sheet. Stencil fonts have these built in. If you use your own lettering, place the bridges consistently so they look intentional.

Do you deliver stencils outside Ahmedabad?

Yes. Every stencil is cut in our Satellite studio in Ahmedabad and shipped across Gujarat and India. We do not have branches or pickup points in other cities.

Why Layer X for Laser-Cut Stencils?

We cut stainless, mild steel, aluminium and acrylic stencils to ±0.1mm, so every letter in a set is identical and reorders match the original. Our engineers review each file, flag fragile bridges and loose islands before cutting, and quote within 24 h. There is no minimum order, whether you need one logo stencil for a shutter or matching sets for every crew. Every stencil is made in our Satellite studio and shipped across Gujarat and India.
