Same-day 3D printing in Ahmedabad is realistic for small FDM and SLA parts collected in person from our single Satellite facility — but only for two of the seven processes we run, and only when the file lands early and the geometry is modest. SLS nylon, DMLS metal, laser cutting and injection tooling cannot — they run on multi-day cycles no amount of urgency compresses. Why same-day 3D printing in Ahmedabad depends entirely on the process
A 3D print is not a photocopy. The word "printing" hides wildly different physics between our seven services, and the terminology we use follows ISO/ASTM 52900, the international standard that defines the additive manufacturing process categories. Material extrusion (FDM) and vat photopolymerisation (SLA) build one part at a time on an open machine — start it, and a small part can finish in hours. Powder-bed processes (SLS nylon, DMLS metal) are the opposite: the machine heats an entire powder bed, builds a full nest of parts together, then needs a controlled cool-down and de-powdering that alone can run overnight. You cannot pull a single part out early.
So the honest answer to "can you print this today?" is always the same first question back: which process does the part need? A snap-fit nylon enclosure that must survive a drop test is an SLS part, and SLS is never same-day. A visual fit-check bracket is an FDM part, and that often is. Same job description, completely different answer.
What genuinely finishes same-day: FDM and SLA
Our FDM 3D printing service is the strongest same-day candidate. FDM at Layer X runs across five engineering polymers — PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA and Nylon PA12 — on a 300×300×400mm build volume, holding a standard tolerance of ±0.3mm and starting from ₹400 per part. A small single-material bracket, jig or housing with a print time under a few hours can realistically be approved in the morning and collected the same day. Our documented FDM lead time is 3–5 business days as standard, and we offer a rush 48-hour service for single-material orders with a build time under 12 hours — same-day is the compressed end of that same rush lane, agreed case by case before you order, not a checkbox.
SLA resin printing is the second same-day process. SLA runs at 25-micron layer resolution with a best tolerance of ±0.05mm on a 192×120×245mm build volume, from ₹800 per part. It is the right call when surface finish or fine detail matters — master patterns, visual models, tight fit-checks. The catch is post-processing: SLA parts need washing and UV post-cure after the print, and biocompatible or dental-grade work carries documentation that cannot be rushed. A plain visual resin part can still make a same-day window; a certified surgical guide cannot.
What cannot be same-day, and why we will not pretend otherwise
Three of our processes are structurally incompatible with same-day collection, and it is worth being specific about each so you can plan around it rather than be disappointed by it.
- SLS nylon — Our SLS 3D printing in PA12, PA12-GF and PA12-CF holds ±0.2mm with isotropic strength and needs no support structures, from ₹1,200 per part. Documented lead time is 4–6 days. The powder bed must heat, build the full nest, then cool slowly before de-powdering — the cool-down alone rules out same-day.
- DMLS metal — Our DMLS metal printing in Ti-6Al-4V, 316L, Inconel and tool steels holds ±0.1mm on a 250×250×325mm build volume, from ₹5,000 per part. Every order includes a CMM dimensional report as standard, plus stress-relief, build-plate removal and often post-machining. This is a multi-day workflow by nature.
- Laser cutting and injection tooling — Fibre laser cutting from ₹300 per metre holds ±0.1mm but carries a 7–14 day lead time; injection tooling inserts start from ₹15,000. Neither is a same-day service under any circumstances.

How walk-in collection works at our Satellite facility
Layer X runs from a single facility — 204, Iscon Emporio, Jodhpur Cross Roads, Satellite, Ahmedabad 380015, Gujarat. There are no branch offices in Ahmedabad or anywhere else, which is deliberate: one facility means one queue, one set of machines, and an honest answer about where your job sits in it. If you are collecting a same-day part, you are coming to Satellite.
The practical mechanics of a same-day pickup are simple. Get your CAD file to us early — an approval landing before mid-morning gives a small FDM or SLA part the runway to print, post-process and be ready by evening. We confirm the collection window when we confirm the print, not before; if the machines are already loaded or the geometry is heavier than it looked, we will tell you same-day is not on and give you the real time. Payment and collection happen at the facility. For anyone outside Ahmedabad, the same job ships pan-India via FedEx and Blue Dart, with international export handled DDP — so a Pune or Chennai customer loses the walk-in window but keeps the fast turnaround.
One realistic expectation worth setting: same-day is a capacity question as much as a physics one. Our machines serve one shared queue across every client in the city, so a slot that is open at 9am may be full by 11am. This is not a reason to hedge — it is a reason to send the file first and ask second. We hold same-day windows for the jobs that reach us early and print small, and we say so honestly the moment a part no longer fits. There is no premium tier that jumps the queue by paying more; there is only when the file arrived and how long the part takes to build.
Which local industries actually use same-day pickup
The demand for same-day collection in Ahmedabad and wider Gujarat is real and specific. Product design studios and startups iterating on enclosures want an FDM fit-check in hand before the next standup. Machine shops and automotive suppliers around the GIDC belts need a jig or fixture bridged in nylon or PLA while the metal version is still being cut. Where teams get caught out is assuming that urgency applies uniformly. A functional end-use nylon part for a drop test is worth the 4–6 day SLS cycle precisely because it will not fail; forcing it into FDM to hit a same-day deadline trades the wrong thing.
