Say you run a precision parts unit near Ahmedabad and your engineers keep forwarding clips from China: four-colour printers, enclosed machines that handle nylon, copper parts for server cooling. Before any of it changes a purchase decision, it helps to know what was actually shown, and where. TCT Shenzhen 2026 ran 14 to 16 October at Shenzhen World. It followed Formnext Asia Shenzhen in August and TCT Asia in Shanghai in March. This post sets the three shows side by side using organiser-reported figures and named sources, then picks out seven trends and what each means for buyers in Gujarat and India. Layer X did not attend these shows. We are a studio in Satellite, Ahmedabad, reading public reports, and where a claim comes from one company or one commentator we say so. For the practical side of getting parts made, see our FDM 3D printing service.

Three shows, three jobs

The three shows are separate events. TCT Asia (Shanghai) and TCT Shenzhen are run by Globus Rapid News. The organiser presents TCT Asia as the show that sets market direction, and TCT Shenzhen as its application-focused counterpart, aimed at production-line solutions in consumer electronics, moulds, jewellery and dental work. Formnext Asia Shenzhen is organised by Guangzhou Guangya Messe Frankfurt and was co-located with the power-electronics fair PCIM Asia Shenzhen.

ShowDates (2026)VenueFocus
TCT Asia (Shanghai)17 to 19 MarchNECC Shanghai, Halls 7.1 and 8.1Hall 7.1 metal, aerospace, energy; Hall 8.1 polymers, consumer products, software
Formnext Asia Shenzhen26 to 28 AugustShenzhen WorldIndustrial AM, print-farm and consumer zone, footwear, AI cooling
TCT Shenzhen14 to 16 OctoberShenzhen World, Hall 15Application and production-line solutions

That is our reading of the programmes: flagship machines tend to appear at TCT Asia, while the Shenzhen shows sit closer to desktop brands, materials suppliers and application stories.

How big were they? Organiser-reported figures

Visitor and exhibitor numbers below come from the organisers, not from an independent audit.

  • TCT Shenzhen: 34,347 unique visitors, up 85% on the previous edition, with more than 300 exhibitors and more than 80 conference sessions.
  • Formnext Asia Shenzhen: 330 exhibitors and 34,202 visitors, up 65% on 2025, from 113 countries and regions. It also ran the first International 3D Printed Footwear Design Awards and a dealer-matching meeting for overseas channel buyers.
  • TCT Asia (Shanghai): we have not quoted a 2026 visitor total because we could not verify one.

One disclosure: the outlet that reported the TCT Shenzhen figures, 3DPrinting.com, was a media partner of the show.

These are drawn from organiser releases and trade reports. Each item says who made the claim.

  1. Multicolour and multi-material at lower prices. Flashforge's Creator 5 line and AtomForm's Palette 300 were shown at TCT Asia, and Snapmaker took a model marketplace for its U1 to Formnext Asia Shenzhen. Bambu Lab's X2D was announced in April, not at a show. Our multi-material printing guide covers the basics.
  2. Enclosed, heated-chamber desktop machines. Bambu Lab describes a heated chamber mode on the X2D for ABS, ASA and nylon. Flashforge's Creator 5 Pro is a fully enclosed model aimed at engineering materials, including carbon-fibre-filled ones.
  3. Large-format, many-laser metal. At TCT Asia, Farsoon debuted the FS1311M-U, a metal powder-bed system with 16 lasers, according to TCT Magazine. HBD exhibited a one-metre rocket engine that LEAP 71 designed with its Noyron AI model.
  4. Copper with green lasers. Addireen and Laseradd, a Kings3D subsidiary, showed green-laser copper systems at Formnext Asia Shenzhen, aimed at cold plates and thermal parts for AI servers. A 3DPrint.com analyst cautions that several exhibitors do not yet prove a large market; repeat orders would.
  5. Production applications. One commentator counted about 17 companies showing printed footwear as a core offering. TCT Magazine saw foldable-phone hinges and smartwatch cases on the TCT Asia floor. The OPPO hinge claim comes from trade reporting and is not independently verified.
  6. Print farms and AI front ends. One operator, Zhang Ximing, estimated about 390,000 printers running in Chinese print farms by August, roughly 350,000 of them Bambu Lab. That is a single operator's estimate. Meshy showed a photo-to-printable-figure workflow; our post on AI in 3D printing workflows covers where this fits.
  7. Resin and polymer powder: mixed news. HP's MJF 1200 had its Asia-Pacific debut at Formnext Asia Shenzhen, and Hanin showed a jet-fusion system. The reports we read give no strong evidence that desktop powder machines are replacing industrial ones.

Where the evidence is thin

The 3DPrint.com author's own conclusion is cautious: China can assemble machines, materials, software and capacity around a new application very quickly, but supply may grow faster than demand, as consumer print farms already show. Industrial additive manufacturing moves more slowly because parts must be qualified. Printed footwear drew more supplier attention than visible adoption, while shoe moulds fit an existing workflow more easily.

A launch is a datasheet, not a delivery. Wait for repeat orders, qualified parts and local service before a show announcement changes what you buy. (Layer X rule of thumb)

What it means for buyers in Gujarat and India

None of these machines is a Layer X product, and we have not tested them. The practical reading for a factory owner, designer or architect is below.

  • Prototype quality should keep rising. Colour, enclosed chambers and faster FDM make better looks-like and basic functional models easier to get from any supplier, local or imported.
  • Metal is a supplier question, not a machine question. Large many-laser systems exist in China. What an Indian buyer needs is qualified parts, material certificates and a lead time from a supplier who can be reached by phone.
  • Check Indian availability. A show demo says nothing about who sells, services and stocks spares in India. Ask before you fall for a launch.
  • Use the next shows as checkpoints. Formnext Frankfurt runs 17 to 20 November 2026, and TCT Asia returns to Shanghai on 27 to 29 May 2027.

Key Takeaways

  • Three separate shows: TCT Asia (Shanghai, March), Formnext Asia Shenzhen (August) and TCT Shenzhen (October) have different organisers or focuses.
  • Scale is organiser-reported: 34,347 visitors at TCT Shenzhen and 34,202 at Formnext Asia Shenzhen, neither independently audited.
  • Seven trends: multicolour, enclosed machines, many-laser metal, green-laser copper, production uses, print farms with AI, and mixed resin and powder news.
  • Treat claims carefully: the print-farm figure is one operator's estimate and the OPPO hinge item is a trade-report claim.
  • Buy on availability: for Gujarat buyers, local support and qualified parts matter more than a show demo.
