Say a pump maker in Rajkot has booked a stall at Engiexpo Ahmedabad. The flagship pump weighs far more than anyone wants to carry into an exhibition ground, and the stall is small. The sales team is asking for a machine model for engineering expo visitors: something that shows the pump clearly, survives three days of handling and arrives on time. That last part is where plans slip, because a good model needs several weeks, and Engiexpo Ahmedabad opens on 19 December 2026. This guide is for pump, valve, machine tool and automation MSMEs in Gujarat. It covers machine models when the real machine is too heavy, cutaways, enlarged components, what fits in a 9 m² or 18 m² stall, and a calendar that works back from each show. Layer X makes industrial and machine models at its studio in Satellite, Ahmedabad.
The shows and the dates you can plan on
Engiexpo is a general engineering exhibition that moves between Gujarat cities. Its organiser's website lists the following editions. We use one ordering rule throughout: a standard scale model should be ordered at least 4 weeks before the first day, and a large or highly detailed model at least 6 weeks before.
| Show | Dates | Venue | Order by (4 wk / 6 wk) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engiexpo Ahmedabad (20th) | 19-21 Dec 2026 | GMDC Ground, Ahmedabad | 21 Nov / 7 Nov 2026 |
| Engiexpo Surat (21st) | 6-8 Feb 2027 | Vanita Vishram Ground, Surat | 9 Jan / 26 Dec 2026 |
| Engiexpo Rajkot (23rd) | 21-24 Nov 2027 | NSIC Ground, Rajkot | 24 Oct / 10 Oct 2027 |
| ENGIMACH 2027 (18th) | Expected December 2027, not confirmed | Expected Helipad Exhibition Centre, Gandhinagar | To be set once dates are published |
About Engimach: its organiser, K and D Communication, has not yet published 2027 dates on the Engimach website, which still shows the previous edition. Trade listings point to the first week of December 2027 at the Helipad Exhibition Centre in Gandhinagar, but treat that as provisional and confirm with the organiser. We checked these dates against organiser sites in November 2026. Please confirm them again before you book freight.
Machine models when the real machine is too heavy
A press, a multistage pump or a CNC cell is expensive to move and awkward to power in a stall. A scale model of the machine keeps the shape, layout and proportions that buyers recognise, without the crane. In practice a model like this does three jobs:
- It shows the overall configuration, including inlet and outlet positions, control side and footprint.
- It carries labels or a name plate that point out features, so your team does not repeat the same explanation.
- It can sit on a table beside a real sample component, which proves the model is of something you actually make.
The models we make are static display pieces. We do not offer motorised or working models, so plan any demonstration around a real part or a video on a screen. If you want a sense of how pump and valve parts are made in Gujarat, our article on DMLS metal parts for pumps and valves covers the cluster.
Cutaways and enlarged components
Engineers walk past machines but stop at what they cannot see. A cutaway model removes a section so the inside is visible: a valve body with the seat and stem, a gearbox with its gear train, a pump casing with its impeller and flow passage. It lets a buyer judge your design thinking in seconds.
An enlarged component serves the opposite problem. A small precision part such as a seal, a nozzle or a gear tooth form is hard to read from the aisle. Printing it at several times actual size, with a plain label, turns it into a talking point. Detailed small features suit SLA resin; larger bodies suit FDM, which prints single pieces up to 300×300×400mm, and bigger models are built in sections. Strong, tougher small parts can be printed in SLS nylon.
Do not expect a printed cutaway to behave like the metal part. It shows geometry, not strength, so keep it out of any performance claim on your stand.
What fits in a 9 m² or 18 m² stall
Every organiser sets its own stall rules for height, weight and floor loading, and we do not know them for your show. Check the exhibitor manual and treat the points below as general guidance only. A 9 m² stall is roughly a 3 m by 3 m square, and an 18 m² stall is double that, but the actual shape and the number of open sides vary.
- One hero model, not many: a single large model on a table or plinth is easier to light and protect than five small ones.
- Leave walking space: a stall that feels crowded loses visitors. Keep the table back from the open side.
- Place by traffic: put the model where visitors slow down, usually near the entrance edge, with seating or a counter behind it.
- In an 18 m² stall: you can pair a machine model with a cutaway and an enlarged component, each on its own stand.
- Protect it: a laser-cut acrylic cover keeps hands off fine parts. Acrylic work takes longer, so see the timeline below.
Rule of thumb: size the model so one person can lift it and two people can carry it, and plan the pack before the file goes to print.
A planning calendar that works backwards
Models come together in stages, and the slowest stage sets the date. Here is the sequence we follow, with the typical time for each step.
- File review and quote: send CAD, drawings or photos; our engineers quote within 24 h.
- Approval: you confirm scale, which sections are cut away and how the model is split.
- Printing: SLA 2 to 4 days, FDM 3 to 5 days, SLS 4 to 6 days.
- Acrylic base and cover: laser cutting takes 7 to 14 days, so release it early.
- Assembly and packing: parts are joined and checked, then packed for the road.
- Courier and buffer: Gandhinagar is close to Ahmedabad and Surat is a longer road trip, so leave time for a correction.
Working back from the show dates above: for Engiexpo Ahmedabad, send files by 7 November for a large model or 21 November for a standard one. For Engiexpo Surat, the dates are 26 December 2026 and 9 January 2027. Engimach will be set once the organiser confirms. If you exhibit at several shows, one model can often travel from Ahmedabad to Surat to Rajkot, so order a sturdy one and a good case.
Key Takeaways
- Shows: Engiexpo Ahmedabad is 19-21 December 2026, Surat 6-8 February 2027 and Rajkot 21-24 November 2027; Engimach 2027 is expected, not confirmed.
- Deadlines: a standard model needs 4 weeks and a large or detailed one 6 weeks before day one.
- Formats: machine models for heavy equipment, cutaways for internals and enlarged components for small precision parts.
- Stall space: one hero model and a cover usually beat many small pieces; check your organiser's stall rules.
- Limits: models are static display pieces and show geometry, not performance.
Frequently Asked Questions
How early should I order a machine model for an engineering expo?
Order a standard model at least 4 weeks before the first day and a large or highly detailed one at least 6 weeks before. For Engiexpo Ahmedabad on 19 December 2026 that means 21 November and 7 November respectively.
Are the Engimach 2027 dates confirmed?
No. The organiser, K and D Communication, has not yet published 2027 dates, although trade listings point to early December 2027 at the Helipad Exhibition Centre, Gandhinagar. Confirm with the organiser before planning around that date.
Can the model move or run like the real machine?
No. We make static display models and do not offer motorised or working versions. Pair the model with a real sample part or a video if you want to show motion.
Can one model be used at more than one show?
Yes, if it is built in sections, packed in a protective case and fitted with an acrylic cover. Ask us to design it for repeated transport when you request a quote.
Why Layer X for machine models?
FDM printing, SLA resin, SLS nylon and laser-cut acrylic are all under one roof in Satellite, Ahmedabad, so the body, the fine detail, the cutaway section and the cover are planned together. Our engineers review every file, quote within 24 h, point out thin features that will not survive transport and tell you when a date is too tight for the detail you want. There is no minimum order, and we ship across Gujarat and India. Send drawings, the expo name and the first day, and get your 24-hour quote.
